With love for every detail

Our Story

I have always had an affinity towards art. At a very young age, I spent many hours drawing, painting and singing. As I grew up and life began to introduce new interests and priorities, my love and time dedicated to expressing myself through art became minimal. It wasn’t until I moved away from my family and the familiar that I rediscovered this passion. As a lonely, isolated resident of a new place, I began to look for ways to make friends and learn new things.

Who knew that one pottery class series would forever change my life afterwards?

One class led to another, and those classes turned into countless hours in open studio, slowly refining my craft. When creating, I feel connected to my paternal grandmother, Beatrice, and great-grandmother, Ruby (both of whom are represented in our name, ru·bea studio). Grandma Bea (pictured in the blue shirt) is my forever hero, inspiration and example of what it means to be bold, self-assured and serve others humbly. Grandma Ruby (pictured in the purple) also shared a love for ceramics and serves as my creative inspiration. Ru·bea studio was created as a way to honor them both.

Each and every piece created is made from a place of love and with the intention to be perfectly unique. It is my hope that my art makes you smile, feel loved and inspired to share that love with others.

With love, from ru·bea stu 🤍

Our Process

Have you ever wondered what the process of creating a ceramic piece is from start-to-finish? While there are many variations of the steps for each artist and pottery studio, check out the information below for the process we follow.

The entire process, on average, takes 3-5 weeks. If you have an idea for a custom piece that you’d like to create, be sure to factor in the average amount of time it takes to make the piece you have in mind!

Wheel Throwing & Trimming
A lumpy ball of clay is smashed onto the wheel and shaped into its desired form. The process of shaping clay on a spinning wheel is called “throwing.” Afterward, the piece is dried to the right consistency and trimmed with tools to remove excess clay, refining its final shape.
Bisque Firing
After being thrown and trimmed, the dried clay piece is ready for bisque firing. It goes into a kiln, where it is heated to thousands of degrees, hardening the piece. Once cooled, the bisque-fired piece can be taken out and prepared for glazing, the next step.
Glaze Firing
After bisque firing, glaze is applied to the piece, and it dries fully. The glazed piece is then kiln-fired again. During this process, temperature and chemical reactions create unique variations in color. Once cooled, the finished piece is ready for listing!
