Our Process: From Clay to Keepsake

Creating ceramics is a journey that requires patience, artistry, and dedication. At ru·bea studio, we follow a detailed process to transform raw clay into timeless pieces. It begins with wheel throwing, where a humble ball of clay is shaped into its initial form on a spinning wheel. After the piece dries slightly, we carefully trim away excess clay, refining its final shape with precision and artistry. Each stage of the process is a dance of creativity and technique.

Next comes bisque firing, where the shaped and trimmed piece is placed in a kiln and heated to thousands of degrees. This initial firing hardens the clay and prepares it for glazing. After cooling, the piece is ready to be transformed with the perfect glaze.

Glaze firing is where the magic happens. The applied glaze fuses with the clay at high temperatures, creating unique textures and variations in color. Each piece responds differently to the firing process, ensuring every item is as individual as the person who holds it.

On average, the full process takes 3-5 weeks, so if you’re dreaming of a custom creation, keep this timeline in mind. Every piece we craft is a labor of love, designed to bring beauty and warmth into your home. If you’d like to request a custom piece, click here.
